Three city men have been arrested and each charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old boy in mid-November, authorities said on Monday afternoon.

Estiby R. Fernandez, 21; Robert W. Pena-Marzan, 18; and Jimmy Polanco, 22, allegedly stabbed the boy in the area of Lewis and Cedar streets on November 14, 2017 at around 4:10 p.m., authorities said.

Fernandez, Pena-Marzan, and Polanco have been charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.

Authorities captured the men in the past six days.

Fernandez was arrested last Tuesday. Pena-Marzan was arrested on last Wednesday. And Polanco surrendered to police on Sunday.

Police found the three men’s alleged victim suffering from life threatening stab wounds in the area of 40 Lewis Street. He was rushed to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment and survived his injuries.

The victim has since been released from hospital, authorities said.

The stabbing incident prompted the city’s school district to hire four off-duty police officers to patrol the area around Eastside High School and John F. Kennedy High School during dismissal time.

Fernandez, Pena-Marzan, and Polanco could face long prison sentences if convicted of the charges.
