Municipal officials have delayed renewal of a pool hall license for Paterson Billiards, the sports club where a man was shot to death five weeks ago.
Council president Ruby Cotton requested the administration provide police calls for service and other crime statistics for the sports bar on the corner of Market and Church Streets. Council members also requested the business’ owner Sung Soo Kim appear before the governing body for a hearing.
Municipal officials are scrutinizing the business following the homicide of 34-year-old Dontrelle Horne on Dec. 1, 2017. Horne was shot to death inside the pool hall by 33-year-old Leroy Hodgson.
Authorities arrested Hodgson in late December. He faces murder and three weapons charges, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Council members were expected to easily approve the billiard room license for the business in their Dec. 19, 2017 meeting; however, the homicide forced them to take a closer look at the business prior to approving the pool hall license.
