Teague expresses confidence in Shafer’s leadership

I find myself in a juxtaposition right now. On the one hand, I did question the process. On the other hand, I am fully supportive of Ms. Eileen Shafer. I want to go on record as saying that I am completely confident in her leadership. I’ll briefly explain my reason. When I served on the school board I was able to always reach Ms. Shafer. The lines of communication were always open.

Even after completing my term on the board the lines of communication between Ms. Shafer and I remained open. When she became deputy superintendent the lines of communication remained open. When Ms. Shafer became acting superintendent of schools the lines of communication remained open.

And now, as she ascends to the office of superintendent of schools the lines of communication remain open. Her commitment to maintaining constant communication is top rate. She isn’t running away from the issue of the 1,900 students who are due speech therapy. She isn’t running away from the fiscal crisis we are faced with as a school district.

I firmly believe that Ms. Shafer is now in a position to better assist in rectifying these issues. As a former school board member and city education activist I look forward to working with Ms. Shafer’s administration. Together we will advocate to make sure that all of our students, especially special education/IEP students receive a thorough and efficient education.
