The police were out in full force on Saturday targeting law breakers throughout the city, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

Police issued 431 traffic tickets, 17 ordinance violations, and towed 10 vehicles.

“I commend the work of the police department this past weekend as they doubled down on efforts to make our community safer,” said mayor Andre Sayegh. “This work included getting guns off of our streets and improving the quality of life for residents.”

Speziale said police chased down two men in the area of 150 Putnam Street and confiscated two handguns.

Noah Shaffer, 18, and, Zaire Williams, 19, were arrested following the chase. They were with a group of 6-7 males wearing dark clothing and sporting handguns in the area. Others got away from police.

Hours later, police received a call from an area resident that a handgun was in a driveway. Police recovered a third weapon.

“This operation is indicative of the dedication by the men and women of the department in making a safer Paterson,” Speziale said.
