A vehicle stop at the crime-ridden corner of Fair and Auburn Streets yielded four arrests and a semi-automatic handgun, said police director Jerry Speziale on Wednesday afternoon.
Moise Hernandez, 25, of Paterson; Haneef Jones, 30, of Clifton; Marvin Pena, 24, of Paterson; and Deshawnte Cody, 24, of Passaic City, were charged with possession of illegal firearm, hollow point bullets, and stolen property.
Pena, the driver, was also given motor vehicle summonses; and Jones was charged with certain persons not to have weapons.
All four were inside a four-door 2012 Audi on Tuesday at about 7 p.m. Detectives saw the vehicle fail to halt at the stop sign on Fair and Auburn. Police followed the vehicle until pulling it over into a parking lot on Broadway and Straight Street.
Detective Luis Fernandez looked inside the car and saw a firearm sticking out from a netted pocket attached to the rear driver side seat.
All four suspects were ordered out of the vehicle. Police recovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun that was reported stolen out of North Carolina in 2015.
The gun is being sent to the New Jersey State Police ballistics laboratory for analysis and investigation.
Other detectives assisted in the arrest were: Anthony Castronova, William Hermann, James Jenkins, Rene Alicea, Jose Torres, and Sergeant Richard LaTrecchia.
