Four people were shot, one fatally, in separate overnight shootings in the city, according to law enforcement sources.

The first shooting happened on East 16th Avenue and East 18th Street at about 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. A man was shot to death and a second was injured, according to police.

The second shooting occurred on Fair Street at about 10:17 p.m. A 24-year-old Bloomfield man sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The third shooting happened on Lyon Street at about 11:22 p.m. A 58-year-old man was injured.

Police found the victim in a basement room suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for Treatment.

Police made an arrest and recovered a weapon in the Lyon Street incident, according to sources.

Councilman Luis Velez said the intersection of 16th Avenue and East 18th Street had a camera that deterred group gatherings. He said an area business owner told him since that camera was removed two days ago the corner “got wild”.

“That camera was controlling a lot of that corner,” said Velez.

Police said residential and commercial cameras in the area provide adequate coverage.

Velez wants the camera returned to the area. Police director Jerry Speziale said if he can find a spare camera he will install one at the corner.
