A Passaic City man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a Paterson man in a fight on Main Street on Sunday afternoon.

Danny Valasquez, 25, of Passaic City, has been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon. He allegedly used a knife to stab the 28-year-old victim outside 1023 Main Street at around 5:55 p.m.

Police said the victim suffered a serious stab wound. He made it to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. He underwent emergency surgery and is in stable condition, police said.

Police began investigating after getting reports of a fight and stabbing on Main Street and Michigan Avenue.

Police located two men fleeing the area on Getty and Delaware avenues. Both men, 19 and 20, of Passaic City, were taken to headquarters for questioning. Police received further information that two more possible suspects were in the area of 434 Getty Avenue.

Police found Valasquez and another man, 20, of Passaic City, standing behind a beige Toyota station wagon. Both were taken to headquarters. Only Valasquez was charged.

“The quick actions and ability of the officers to quickly see the situation for what it was, enabled all to be apprehended resulting in the charges brought forward,” police director Jerry Speziale said.

Police officers Jon Dabal and Mohammad Bashir responded to the incident and made the arrest.
