The police arrested a second teenager for his alleged role in the armed robbery of the El Fogon Restaurant on Union Avenue, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Detectives arrested the 15-year-old boy on Wednesday afternoon. He was among a large group that assembled outside of John F. Kennedy High School at the corner of Preakness Avenue and Liberty Street at 2:35 p.m.

Police previously arrested a 17-year-old boy in the same case. On May 23, a police officer was flagged down and told the El Fogon Restaurant at 475 Union Avenue was being robbed. When she responded to the restaurant, she saw two suspects running out of the restaurant.

Descriptions of both suspects were broadcast to other police units in the area. Police quickly located the 17-year-old on Garrison Street, but the second suspect managed to flee.

Detective Andres Brea recognized the 15-year-old outside of John F. Kennedy High School. Detective Charlie Garcia exited an unmarked car and took the boy into custody with assistance from detective sergeant Kelly Pacelli.

Police continue to investigate the case. Detectives are looking at the pair’s possible involvement in other robberies in the city.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Juvenile Division at (973) 321-1126.
