A police-involved shooting in Paterson is under investigation, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities said the incident occurred at around 10 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Presidential Boulevard and West Broadway.
Police were attempting to pull over a stolen minivan that ran a red light in the area and refused to stop. As police tried to bring the vehicle to a stop, the driver allegedly tried to strike a police officer. The officer fired a shot, according to a law enforcement source.
The vehicle came to a stop on Straight and Van Houten streets. Police had Broadway and Straight Street blocked off to vehicular traffic.
The scene has been secured and the investigation is active and ongoing, authorities said.
