A motorist ran over a hard object while driving on Madison Street early Saturday morning, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Police said the driver got out of his car to inspect what had been run over. The driver discovered a blue cloth that contained a Glock 26 with an extended 40 rounds magazine and 11 9MM live rounds, police said.
The driver called police. Officers responded at around 1:22 a.m. and recovered the weapon and ammunition.
Police conducted a check of the weapon, but found it was not reported stolen.
“It’s individuals like this that assist the Paterson police department in its efforts to combat gun violence,” Speziale said.
