A mother and her son were arrested during a drug bust on Marion Street that yielded 23 pounds of marijuana and $38,631 in cash on Monday afternoon, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Police arrested the alleged drug dealing mother, Mirtha Mejia, 52, and son, Jeffrey Lopez, 24, both of Paterson, during the raid at 181 Marion Street at around 1 p.m. Police also arrested two alleged buyers Yorquis Fernandez, 22 of Paterson; and Manuel Aristy, 26, of Clifton.

Mejia and Lopez were each charged with 11 separate drug offenses. Fernandez and Aristy were each charged with marijuana possession.

Detectives developed intelligence on drug distribution activity at the address while conducting a separate narcotics investigation last week. Mother and son duo ran their operation from the fortified first floor apartment of 181 Marion Street, police said.

The duo secured the premises using surveillance cameras, police said. Police confiscated 29 bags, 3 jars, 1,468 tins, 207 pre-rolled cigars, and 31 THC oils. Police also seized 17 Xanax tablets.

“This was a significant operation feeding the drug trade and disrupting the quality of life in our City,” Speziale said. “Narcotics will continue to vigorously go after the supply and demand.”
