After a pair of fatalities rocked the city, Paterson police took no chances over the past weekend by saturating the streets with officers.

Police reported 30 arrests for drugs and weapons charges. 814 moving violations. 343 parking violations. 133 ordinance violations for public drinking, loud music, and blocking entrances to stores during their crime suppression operation that took place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

“This is only the beginning of relentless follow up to ensure a safer Paterson,” public safety director Jerry Speziale said on Monday afternoon.

Speziale said police recovered 5 semi-automatic handguns and 3 high capacity magazines. Police recovered 939 glassine envelopes of heroin, 2 pounds of marijuana, half-pound of crack cocaine, and 4 Xanax tablets.

“Our Special operation was a success,” mayor Andre Sayegh said. “We will not rest until Paterson is a safer City.”

Paterson police worked with county, state, and federal partners, officials said. Partners provided manpower, equipment, and other resources, according to the public safety director.

No shootings occurred over the past weekend as a result, police said.
