A city man was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder on Saturday for his alleged role in a shooting on Market Street back in September, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ben Brockington, 56-year-old, was also charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose for his alleged role in the September 15, 2019 incident, authorities said.

Brockington was arrested when officers from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office conducted a motor vehicle stop on Fair Street. He faces fresh charges from the motor vehicle stop. Authorities said he was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of a firearm while committing a drug offense, and several drug offenses.

Police identified Brockington as the alleged shooter in the September 15, 2019 incident on Market Street that left an 18-year-old city man with a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Brockington faces maximum of 20 years in prison solely on the attempted murder charge, authorities said. Prosecutors have filed a motion for pretrial detention in the case.
