Paterson teacher, meal distribution volunteer test positive for coronavirus

A high school teacher and a meal distribution volunteer have tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The teacher worked at the School of Education and Training (SET) at John F. Kennedy High School, according to a robo call issued by superintendent Eileen Shafer on Wednesday. The meal distribution volunteer helped to hand out food to students while school is out at the Mighty Sons of God at 77 Park Avenue.
People who worked at the Mighty Sons of God to distribute food are urged to quarantine themselves for two weeks and call a doctor if Covid-19 symptoms such as dry cough, shortness of breath, and fever develop.
Councilman Luis Velez attended the first day of meal distribution at the location.”I didn’t have direct contact with anybody,” he said.
Velez said he was there for five minutes and kept his distance from people. He also used hand sanitizer to avoid potential exposure to the virus from touching surfaces.
Previously, school officials said a student who attends the School of Business, Technology, Marketing and Finance (BTMF) at John F. Kennedy High School tested positive. Two Great Falls Academy teachers and a Rosa Parks High School instructional assistant also tested positive for the virus.
Three people have died from the virus and 102 people tested positive in Paterson, according to officials.
