Paterson coronavirus cases rise to nearly 1,600 with 59 deaths

The numbers of people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Paterson climbed to 1,572, according to municipal government data.

59 people have died from Covid-19 in Paterson. Age range of the dead is 22-96. 56% of the fatalities were men; 44% were women. Senior citizens are at the highest risk for death. The age group 70-79 saw the highest number of fatalities in Paterson, according to municipal data.

No new deaths were reported on Friday. Officials have said there is a lag in reporting death from the virus.

Paterson has the biggest outbreak of Covid-19 in Passaic County with Clifton trailing behind. Clifton reported 765 cases with 17 deaths on Thursday.

Passaic County has 5,017 infected people with 101 deaths. Overall, New Jersey had 54,588 infections with 1,932 fatalities on Friday.
