Paterson reports 1,809 total coronavirus cases

The numbers of people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Paterson has increased to 1,809 on Sunday, according to municipal government data.

Sunday’s increase of 180 cases marks one of the biggest spikes since Paterson started seeing cases on Mar. 16. Two other days had more than 180 cases – Apr. 4th and 5th.

59 people have died from the virus in Paterson. Age of those dead ranges from 22 to 96. 56% of the fatalities were men; 44% were women. Senior citizens are at the highest risk for death. The age group 70-79 saw the highest number of fatalities in Paterson, according to municipal data.

No fatalities were reported on Sunday.

Paterson, a densely populated municipality of nearly 150,000 people, has the biggest outbreak in Passaic County. Clifton has the second biggest outbreak of the virus with 936 infections and 20 deaths.

Passaic County had 5,590 infections and 131 deaths on Sunday. Overall, New Jersey reported 61,850 cases and 2,350 deaths.
