Paterson coronavirus cases top 2,700 with 64 deaths; police took 200 enforcement actions for Covid-19 violations

The number of people infected with the new coronavirus in Paterson increased by 173, boosting the total case count to 2,739 on Saturday afternoon.
Municipal officials reported one new fatality, bringing the total to 64. Health officials said the death numbers are lagging behind as hospitals in the region have been swamped by Covid-19 patients slowing down their reporting.
Meanwhile, police took 196 enforcement actions from Sunday to Saturday against people violating regulations put in place to break the chain of transmission. 93 groups were dispersed. 101 ordinance violations were issued. And 2 businesses were closed, said public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Paterson has the biggest outbreak in Passaic County. Clifton has the second largest outbreak with 1,399 infections and 46 deaths. Passaic County has 7,936 infections and 243 deaths. Overall, New Jersey had 81,420 with 4,070 deaths on Saturday.
