The number of people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Paterson increased by 204 to 3,135 on Tuesday, according to municipal government data.

Fatalities increased from 64 to 111 on Tuesday afternoon. Health officials have said there’s a delay in reporting deaths due to a lag in overwhelmed hospitals reporting the information.

After complaints from council president Maritza Davila, municipal officials are reporting 3,527 unverified infections in Paterson. She had complained county and municipal numbers do not match. Health officials have said the county’s numbers includes duplicate, wrong jurisdiction, and negative test result cases and that local health department numbers are the most accurate tally of confirmed cases.

Municipal officials have urged residents to practice social distancing. However, some are failing to abide by governor Phil Murphy’s stay-at-home orders. Police dispersed groups at seven Paterson street corners on Monday. Gangs of people had gathered at the intersections who failed to practice social distancing.

Police issued 35 Covid-19-related summonses on Monday.

Paterson has the biggest outbreak of the virus in Passaic County. Clifton has the second largest outbreak with 1,514 infections and 54 deaths. Passaic County has 8,941 infections with 294 deaths. Overall, New Jersey had 92,387 cases with 4,753 deaths on Tuesday.
