Coronavirus cases top 3,500 with 124 deaths in Paterson; police disperse crowds at Eastside Park, Wrigley Park

The number of people infected with the new coronavirus in Paterson increased by 204 to 3,587 while the number of deaths increased by 11 to 124 on Thursday, according to municipal government data.
Paterson has the biggest virus outbreak in Passaic County. Clifton has the second biggest outbreak with 1,718 infections and 65 deaths. Passaic County, across 16 municipalities, has 9,874 infections and 350 deaths. Overall, New Jersey had 99,989 confirmed cases with 5,368 deaths on Thursday.
Meanwhile, police in Paterson have been clearing street gatherings and issuing summonses to people failing to abide by social distancing orders.
Police broke up gatherings at:
- Broadway and Summer Street
- Eastside Park
- Wrigley Park
- Governor Street and Carroll Street
- 17th Avenue E. 28th Street
- Park Avenue and Carroll Street
- Vreeland Avenue and 19th Avenue
- East Main/ Hillman Street
- 10th Avenue and E. 22nd Street.
Municipal parks were ordered closed during the pandemic by mayor Andre Sayegh.
Police issued 53 summonses, including six to people who allegedly violated governor’s Executive Order 107, on Wednesday. Seven more summonses were issued for motor vehicle violations.
