Paterson coronavirus cases spike after five days of decline

After five consecutive days of decrease in daily cases, the number of infections jumped by 134 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in Paterson to 5,347.

Officials said the confirmed cases spiked because of expanded availability of testing in the city. Two non-governmental testing sites opened in the city this week.

Three new fatalities were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total deaths from Covid-19 to 183.

Nursing homes in the city reported 57 infections with eight deaths. Doctors Sub Acute Care has 30 cases and 1 death. Complete Care at Fair Lawn Edge has 27 cases and 7 deaths.

Paterson has the biggest outbreak of the virus in Passaic County.

Passaic County has 13,971 infections with 690 deaths. Overall, New Jersey had 131,890 cases with 8,549 fatalities on Wednesday.
