After seeing double-digit increases in daily infections for two months, Paterson reported 6 new cases on Saturday afternoon, according to municipal government data.

Data shows the last time the daily cases were this low was on March 21, sixth day into the pandemic, when Paterson also had 6 cases.

Paterson’s daily cases peaked on April 16 with 262 infections.

Daily cases have reduced through a mix of social distancing and aggressive contact tracing by the Paterson Strike Team.

Local officials were slow to set up testing sites in Paterson. First test site in the city opened for residents on May 4, generating a long line of people at the old Barnert Hospital.

Seeing the drop in infections and other measures, mayor Andre Sayegh opened two parks — Great Falls and Eastside Park — on Friday.

No new deaths were reported on Saturday. Paterson has 308 fatalities from Covid-19.

Paterson has the largest outbreak of the virus in Passaic County.

Passaic County has 15,610 infections with 888 deaths. Overall, New Jersey has 153,104 cases with 11,081 fatalities.
