The police interrupted a drug transaction in the area of Slater Street on Saturday afternoon, arresting four people, recovering a handgun, and seizing 742 glassine envelopes of heroin, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Michael Lopez, 37, Jose Acevado, 22, a boy, unknown age, and Javar White, 23, all of Paterson, were allegedly involved in a drug deal outside of 220 Slater Street at around 2:14 p.m.

Detectives observed a double-parked black Hyundai occupied by Lopez. The vehicle was surrounded by Acevedo and the juvenile. White was standing near the vehicle.

Police arrested Lopez and Acevado.

Acevado had 12 bricks, 3 bundles of heroin, and 17 baggies of crack cocaine, police said.

The boy began to walk away from police. Police had observed the boy receive $25 in cash from Lopez. He had the cash and five glassine envelopes of heroin in his hands. A search of the boy yielded a .32 caliber TAC revolver loaded with six rounds.

The boy was charged with drugs and weapons offenses.

Lopez was charged with loitering to commit a drug offense. White and Acevado were charged with various drug possession and distribution offenses.

Police seized $622 in suspected drug proceeds during the operation.
