Authorities identify Paterson man who died in house fire

A city man who died in a fire at a 17th Avenue house on Tuesday has been identified, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
83-year-old Charles Bennett died in the fire at 276 17th Avenue, authorities said on Friday. He was found unresponsive in the basement of the two-family house when police and firefighters responded to the second-alarm blaze.
Authorities said Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities said.
