The number of people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Paterson increased by 22 to 6,467 on Saturday afternoon, according to municipal government data.

Daily new cases have been dropping since the beginning of May with some fluctuations. The three-day moving average of daily cases stands at 20.

No new fatalities were reported on Saturday. Paterson has 302 deaths from Covid-19.

The decreasing rate of infection has led to the re-opening of some municipal parks. Pennington Park and Roberto Clemente Park opened on Saturday for residents.

“As we continue to see the metrics of infection and hospitalization rates as well as the level of testing at a suitable standard we will continue to slowly and responsibly re-open more parks in the city,” said mayor Andre Sayegh.

Previously, the Great Falls and Eastside Park were re-opened. Residents visiting the parks are still encouraged to practice social distancing.

Paterson has the largest outbreak of the virus in Passaic County.

Passaic County has 16,436 infections with 969 deaths. Overall, New Jersey has 163,893 cases with 12,106 fatalities.
