A city man was arrested with a semi-automatic handgun and an assortment of drugs after a struggle with police on Rosa Parks Boulevard, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Fernando Irby, 47-year-old, has been charged with weapon and drug offenses, police said. He was allegedly observed in a drug transaction at around 11:10 p.m. outside 21 Rosa Parks Boulevard.

Detectives observed a handgun sticking out of his pants pocket. As police tried to immediately detain him, Irby put up a brief struggle, police said. Police eventually took him into their custody and recovered the loaded Ruger.380 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Irby allegedly had 133 Xanax, 90 Oxycodone, 61 Ecstasy pills, 22 Suboxone strips, 41 baggies of crack cocaine, and 10 baggies of powder cocaine, police said.

Police said Irby was processed and taken to Passaic County Jail for detention.
