3 people hurt in back-to-back Paterson shootings Sunday night

Three men were wounded in back-to-back shootings in Paterson late Sunday night, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police said the three victims — 26, 23, and 19 – arrived at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The 19-year-old and the 23-year-old men were wounded in a shooting on Butler Street and 6th Avenue at around 10:35 p.m. Both victims arrived at the hospital for treatment. Their injuries are non-fatal.

Five minutes later, a mile and half away, in the corner of 16th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard, the 26-year-old man was struck by gunfire. He arrived at the hospital seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Police responded to 16th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard at around 10:40 p.m., but could not locate a victim. They were later advised the victim arrived at the hospital for treatment.

Earlier on Sunday, 22-year-old Byron Brooks was killed outside 189 Hamilton Avenue. He was struck by gunfire at around 3:48 a.m. and died at the hospital less than an hour later, authorities said.

Both non-fatal shootings are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
