Three out-of-state men were arrested on weapon and drug charges during a traffic stop on Washington Avenue early Saturday evening, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Shakeem Jones, 20, of Roanoke, V.A.; Justin Hope, 24, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Davis Echevaria, 26, of Syracuse, N.Y., were arrested after police pulled over their vehicle for speeding in the area of Washington Avenue and Spring Street at around 7:45 p.m.

Jones has been charged with weapons offenses. He allegedly had a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Hope has been charged with Ecstasy possession and Echevaria has been charged with marijuana possession.

Police stopped the silver Nissan with Georgia license plates driven by Hope outside 500 Main Street. Jones had the gun hidden in his waist area, police said.

Jones, Hope, and Echevaria were taken to police headquarters for processing. Jones is being held at the Passaic County Jail.

The weapon is being submitted to the New Jersey State Police Ballistics Laboratory for analysis.
