Passaic County officials have set aside a date to provide free Covid-19 saliva testing for school employees.

Employees of all school districts in Passaic County are eligible. Employees will need to present their school district employee identification cards. Prescription and health insurance are not needed to get tested. Employees should bring a phone or tablet to register.

Teachers and school employees must not eat, drink, chew gum, or smoke 30-minute prior to the test.

“By offering special testing for teachers and school employees, we are taking preventative measures in keeping both our students and educators safe and healthy as we slowly transition back into normalcy,” said Passaic County freeholder director Cassandra “Sandi” Lazzara in a statement on Thursday.

Lazzara’s announcement comes days after a Covid-19 outbreak forced the closure of the Passaic County Technical Institute, a large high school in Wayne attended by students from around the county, for 14 days.

School employees will be tested on October 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 401 Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne.

That may be too late for Passaic County Tech employees. Passaic County officials said their mobile testing initiative is ongoing, taking testing to residents in various towns.

Passaic County residents, including those who may have been exposed at the county high school, can get tested at the mobile testing sites. Find mobile testing sites by clicking here.

“This testing opportunity will help safeguard the health of our members, their students, and their families,” said Sue Butterfield, president of the Passaic County Education Association. Her organization is working in conjunction with the Passaic County government for the “special testing site” for school employees.
