The police recovered a handgun from a suspect during a traffic stop on Hamilton Avenue late Saturday night, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
Craig Tomlinson, 25, was driving a Toyota Camry with Massachusetts license plates on Godwin Avenue and Carroll Street at around 11:50 p.m. He allegedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection.
Police followed his vehicle to Hamilton Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, detectives Mustafa Dombayci and Joseph Aboyoun smelled strong odor of burned marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Tomlinson was removed from the vehicle.
Detectives James Jenkins and Suquan Gary arrived at the scene to assist. They allegedly observed a handgun on Tomlinson’s waistband.
Police recovered a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Tomlinson was charged with numerous weapons offenses and taken to headquarters for processing.
