An outbreak of the new coronavirus at the Paterson school district headquarters has grown to four cases on Wednesday, according to sources.

Superintendent Eileen Shafer had quietly closed some offices on the first floor of 90 Delaware Avenue after three cases were reported, but did not close the entire building.

Shafer’s spokesman Paul Brubaker could not immediately be reached for comments late Wednesday afternoon.

School officials did not publicly mention the outbreak at 90 Delaware Avenue until the Paterson Times contacted them for comments about the cases on Tuesday.

Shafer’s spokesman then issued a press release about the outbreak with a timeline. First case at the district headquarters was reported on October 13.

Shafer and her staff have been working out of the central office during much of the pandemic.

Schools in Paterson have been holding virtual classes since March. School officials said that’s expected to continue until mid-January.
