Walter Pardo would call restaurants like the Banana King in Paterson and order food to be delivered to an address on Granite Avenue over the past week.

Pardo, 29, of Haledon, would tell the restaurants he only had a $100 bill and the delivery person should bring change. He would then wait for the deliveryman to arrive. Once, they arrived with the food, he would approach the driver from a side yard and tell them the food was for him, according to police.

As the delivery driver would try to retrieve change from his person, Pardo would grab the money and run through the yards and flee the scene.

Pardo allegedly put on the same act during six incidents between October 17 through 25. He allegedly stole from a driver from Lefty’s Pizza on October 17. He robbed a driver from Al Pomodoro Pizzeria on October 18. He robbed a Banana King driver on October 19. He robbed a Biagio’s Pizza (Fair Lawn) driver on October 23. He robbed a Casa Mia Pizzeria driver on October 24. And he robbed a Durum Doner (Totowa) driver on October 25, according to police.

Some drivers fought back.

A delivery driver for Casa Mia Pizzeria chased Pardo and caught up with him. Pardo allegedly pulled out a small pocketknife and fled the scene.

Pardo’s luck ran out when he tried to rob the delivery driver for Durum Doner. A resident chased him down and held him until police arrived.

Pardo is charged with four third-degree theft, first-degree robbery, third-degree possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and attempted theft, said public safety director Jerry Speziale.
