Two employees tested positive for Covid-19 at the New Roberto Clemente School prompting the school district to impose remote work until November 18.

Health officials advised the school district to close the New Roberto Clemente School for two weeks, essentially quarantining all employees who work out of the building.

School officials received report of the first infected employee on October 27. They learned about the second case on Wednesday.

“The two people at NRC who tested positive, as well as those at Eastside and the Central Office, remind us of what public health officials have been telling us in recent weeks – that the threat of COVID-19 infection has not subsided,” said superintendent Eileen Shafer on Wednesday.

Shafer has avoided publicly disclosing cases in the district. This is the first time she has voluntarily disclosed cases at the district. Her staff only made public the cases at the district headquarters and Eastside High School after the Paterson Times requested their comments on outbreaks at both buildings.

Shafer said the New Roberto Clemente School will be cleaned and disinfected as a result of the two cases.
