Community Charter School of Paterson shifts to remote learning after four Covid-19 cases

After four people tested positive for Covid-19, the Community Charter School of Paterson is shifting to all-remote learning beginning on Wednesday.
“Over the last couple of days we have become aware of four cases within our school community. Out of an abundance of caution, both of CCSP’s campuses (elementary and middle school) are now closed and we will be fully virtual through Wednesday, November 25, 2020,” said Curtis Palmore, head of the Community Charter School of Paterson, on Tuesday night.
Palmore said the Community Charter School of Paterson, which has 900 students and more than 100 staff, had opened for a mix of in-person and remote learning in early October. He said the school put in place measures to minimize the spread of the coronavirus at its two campuses. School staff had to monitor for signs, symptoms, and potential exposure to Covid-19, he said.
Students will return for in-person hybrid learning on November 30, he said.
Community Charter School is the fourth school in Paterson to close because of positive cases in November. Number of cases in Paterson has surged, reaching daily counts not seen since June. On Tuesday, the city reported 121 cases.
“As CEO I believe that this shift is an important step to ensure that staff and students are healthy and safe and that student learning can be prioritized in a remote virtual setting,” said Palmore.
Palmore voluntarily disclosed the cases at the Community Charter School of Paterson to reporters, something other schools had failed to do.
