Mayor Andre Sayegh’s administration is sending $3.8 million worth of interactive boards, thermal cameras, laptops, masks, and disinfectants to the Paterson school district to pave the way for the re-opening of in-person learning.

Municipal officials are sending:

Members of the City Council awarded contracts on December 1 to purchase the equipment for the district.

Fairfield-based Keyboard Consultants received a $2 million contract to supply the 400 Promethean ActivPanel interactive boards.

Lyndhurst-based Packetalk received a $980,572 contract to provide 60 thermal cameras.

Pompton Lakes-based Northeast Janitorial Supply received a $514,498 contract to provide thousands of washable masks for students, disinfectants, and foggers, according to public records.

Toms River-based Troxell Communications, also known as Trox, received a $217,800 contract to supply 600 Chromebooks.

Sayegh held a press conference on December 4 announcing the large donation to the district. He said the equipment from the city will allow the school district to re-open in-person learning. Schools have been closed since late March.

School officials have extended remote learning until March 1, 2021. A decision will be made in February whether to re-open in-person learning.

The school district couldn’t accept the equipment on December 9 because the municipal government did not approve a resolution donating the items. The Sayegh administration presented a donation measure to the City Council on December 15. Council members approved the measure to donate the equipment.

The equipment are being bought using federal Cares Act funds. Municipal officials have told the vendors to deliver the equipment before December 31.
