Paterson shuts down three New Year’s Eve after-hours party spots

Dozens of people gathered at after-hours spots throughout Paterson for New Year’s Eve parties on Thursday night. Police spoiled their plans by shutting down three after-hours spots.
Grand Street warehouse
Police found 50 people inside the fourth floor of 463 Grand Street. They were smoking and drinking. Three security guards and a DJ were at the location.
Organizer of the after-hours was identified as Sativa M. Corlette-Estevez of West Orange. Corlette-Estevez was issued four summonses for smoking in public, allowing consumption other beer and wine, maintaining a nuisance, and lack of entertainment license.
Besan Café
Police closed down the Besan Café, a repeat offender, at 210 East Railway. 15 people were inside smoking hookah at around 10:43 p.m.
Manager Mahmoud M. Ad-Awad of Stroudsburg, Penn. was issued a summonses for smoking in public.
Mazaj Café
Police found 25 people inside Mazaj Café at 1255 Madison Avenue at around 11:10 p.m.
Barakat Kiame of Woodland Park was issued two summonses for allowing the consumption of alcohol other than beer and wine and smoking in public.
A fourth location, Los Primos Bar, was operating without a pool table license at 9:34 p.m. Police issued a summons to manager Anthony Mejia for not having a pool license. No gatherings were reported at the location.
Police warned businesses about the 10 p.m. closing time because of Covid-19. The businesses cited ignored the warnings and remained open.
