St. Joseph’s Health launched a community vaccination site at the Hani Awadallah School on Wednesday morning.

Vaccination is open to everyone who falls within the New Jersey phase 1b eligibility criteria.

Hospital officials expect to inoculate on average 300 people against Covid-19 every day at the site. 325 people had booked appointments for Wednesday.

“Additional appointments will be added as the vaccine supply increases,” said Kristen Agnes, a spokeswoman for St. Joseph’s Health.

New Jersey health officials have complained about lack of vaccines from the federal government over the past month.

New Jersey has administered 837,225 vaccines — 691,229 first and 145,979 second doses. Federal data shows New Jersey received 1.25 million vaccines. State officials say some of the supply is being held by pharmacies that have been slow to vaccinate long-term care facility residents.

People will need to visit the St. Joseph’s Health website to register for appointment, she said.

St. Joseph’s Health began its vaccination program on December 18, 2020 by vaccinating its own employees.
