A city teen was arrested in possession of a semi-automatic pistol on Slater Street early Wednesday evening, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Kenrick Flores, 18-year-old, was charged with weapons and drug offenses. He was among a group of people at 200 block of Slater Street at around 6:52 p.m.

Detectives were in the area and observed the gathering in front of a residence.

“Yo, cops,” a person yelled out, alerting someone to the presence of police.

Flores discarded glassines of heroin on the sidewalk as detectives approached, police said. Police recovered 30 glassine envelopes of heroin from the sidewalk. While police were placing him under arrest, detectives recovered a loaded Para Ordinance .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol from his waistband.

Flores is being held at the Passaic County Jail pending a hearing.
