A city man has pleaded guilty to setting fire to a building on Sussex Street that displaced five people, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Ertugrul Abaci, 56-year-old, pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated arson on Thursday. He faces up to 10 years in state prison.
Abaci admitted to setting fire in the attic of 431 Sussex Street, a multi-family building he was living in, on June 9, 2020. He then stabbed himself in a failed suicide attempt, according to authorities.
Abaci is scheduled to be sentenced by judge Joseph Portelli on May 7, 2021.
