The police recovered two handguns and broke up a 100-person party on Rosa Parks Boulevard on Friday night, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Keime Porter, 22, of Paterson, was charged with weapons offenses and resisting arrest. He was among a group of 100 people drinking and acting disorderly on Rosa Parks Boulevard and Warren Street at around 11:50 p.m.

Police observed him removing gun from his pants pocket and placing it in the pocket of a hoodie he was wearing. As police officers approached, he began fleeing on foot on Mercer Street towards Keen Street.

Police chased him and he entered a backyard between Keen and Franklin streets. He allegedly discarded the gun in the back of a truck parked in a Franklin Street driveway.

Police recovered the Springfield Armory .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun stolen out of South Carolina.

Porter was arrested on Mercer Street.

Hours earlier, police were called to 12th Avenue and Carroll Street on report of an armed man in the area.

Police arrived at around 9:50 p.m. and tried to locate the suspect. Police observed the suspect go through an open lot in the area of Godwin Avenue.

Police officers recovered a SCCY 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the lot.

The suspect got away.
