Paterson man shot trying to escape being robbed on Mercer Street, authorities say

A city man was shot while trying to escape a robbery attempt on Mercer Street early Sunday morning.
The victim, 35-year-old, was with friends in a vehicle on Mercer and Warren streets at around 3:35 a.m.
A suspect approached demanding the belongings of the occupants.
The victim was struck by gunfire when he tried to escape. He then sought treatment at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for non-fatal gunshot wounds.
Police continue to investigate the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Paterson Police Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
