Paterson teen accused of sexually abusing 9-year-old child

A city teen has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a nine-year-old child, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities said the 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday. He was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of the child.
Authorities began investigating allegations against the teen on May 20 after receiving report a 9-year-old victim was being sexually assaulted by the suspect at a residence in Paterson.
Detectives interviewed the victim and several witnesses. Their investigation revealed the teen began sexually abusing the child when the victim was five years of age and the sexual conduct continued until disclosure.
The 16-year-old is being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center pending adjudication of the charges.
