Former Paterson City Council candidate hit with $8,600 penalty for failing to file campaign finance reports

The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) has imposed an $8,600 penalty against former City Council candidate Bernard Jones.
Jones unsuccessfully ran for an at-large City Council seat in 2018.
As of July 20, 2021, Jones had not filed the required campaign finance report or sworn statement. He was required to file a 29-day preelection report on April 9, 2018 or a sworn statement stating he spent under $5,100 in the race.
The ELEC rendered the final decision against Jones on July 20, 2021. Jones was given a 45-day period to appeal the decision.
Jones was previously issued a $700 penalty for breaking election law in his run 2015 run for the 1st Ward City Council seat.
