A man from Wayne, who was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics when he collided with a vehicle after running through a red light in Paterson, has been indicted, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ibrahim Sumrein, 23-year-old, has been indicted on aggravated assault while intoxicated and within 1,000 feet of school property, assault by auto while intoxicated, and assault by auto related to the December 22, 2019 crash on Railroad Avenue and Grand Street.

Sumrein drove a 2012 Honda Accord through a red light at the intersection and collided with a 1994 Toyota Corolla that was being operated by a 31-year-old Paterson woman, authorities said.

Sumrein was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and narcotics at the time of the crash. The victim was taken to Saint Joseph’s University Hospital for treatment. She suffered serious bodily injuries, authorities said.

Sumrein could face a maximum of 16 years in state prison if convicted on the charges.
