A city man was wounded in a shooting on 12th Avenue early Sunday morning, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The victim, 22-year-old, was struck by gunfire on 12th Avenue and East 22nd Street at around 1 a.m.

Police officers found the victim at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers tried to pull over a vehicle of interest that was suspected of being involved in the shooting. An occupant of the vehicle fired at an officer.

The officer returned fire. The vehicle fled and avoided apprehension. The officer was not injured and it’s not known whether any of the suspects were injured.

Authorities said the shooting victim was admitted to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center. He is in stable condition.
