14-year-old Paterson boy arrested with handgun

A city teen was arrested allegedly in possession of a handgun on North Main Street early Tuesday evening, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.
The boy, 14-year-old, was outside of 111 North Main Street at around 7:30 p.m. He was with a group of 12 individuals blocking the entrance of a liquor store, playing music, and drinking in public.
Detectives exited their vehicles to issue summonses. The boy allegedly tried to hide a weapon in his waist area. He had a HighPoint 9mm semi-automatic handgun. He was quickly arrested and the gun seized.
A second boy, 15-year-old, of Paterson, fled. He was later arrested in a backyard on Watson Street.
The 14-year-old was charged with weapons offenses.
