A police officer fired at a stolen vehicle early Thursday morning, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities said the police officer tried to stop the vehicle on Market and East 22nd streets at around 2 a.m. The police vehicle pulled in front of the stolen car with its overhead lights activated, authorities said, but the driver of the stolen vehicle drove around.

The officer exited the police vehicle and was in the path of the stolen car. He then fired a single shot at the stolen car. The officer was treated for minor injuries at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and released.

Police lost the suspect vehicle and its occupants. It’s not known whether any of the occupants were injured. The suspect remains at large, authorities said.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is conducting the investigation into the police-involved shooting.
