Mayor Andre Sayegh picked a new chief of staff earlier in the month, third time he changed his chief of staff in under four years.

Sayegh picked Christian Callegari, former chief of staff to New Jersey assemblyman Gary Schaer, as his chief of staff.

Callegari began work on November 3, Sayegh said on Sunday.

“As we tackle major issues such as pandemic recovery and public safety, we look forward to Christian complementing the efforts of our administration, as he brings a wealth of knowledge related to both policy and government operations,” said Sayegh. “Now, more than ever, municipal government needs to be efficient in dealing with the new challenges we face daily. I am confident that Christian will be instrumental in enhancing the local quality of life for residents. We are excited to have him on board.”

Callegari is replacing Della Fischer, who has been working as Sayegh’s chief of staff since January 2020. Fischer has been moved to the Economic Development Department to serve as director of community engagement. She will be handling all city-sponsored events in that role, according to Sayegh.

Callegari served as the president of the Passaic County Young Democrats and the chairman of the New Jersey Young Democrats Latino Caucus. He has a bachelor’s in political science from Felician University and a master’s in political science from Rutgers University. He is currently attending Rutgers Law School-Newark.

Sayegh also promoted Dacil Tilos, who was hired as senior communications relations specialist, to public information officer. His previous public information officer, Jessica Diaz, had resigned earlier in the year.

The mayor has been criticized by the City Council for having high staff turnover in his administration.
