As Covid-19 cases surge in Paterson, the city’s public health officer is urging residents to get their booster shots.
Paterson had 145 Covid-19 cases on Thursday, highest number of reported cases in seven months. It had 104 cases on Wednesday. Cases jumped nearly 40 percent in 24 hours.
“Covid-19 is on the rise with break through infections even among those that are fully vaccinated,” said health officer Paul Persaud. “Vaccines remain the best public health measure to protect people from COVID-19, it slows transmission, and helps to reduce the emergence of new variants. COVID-19 vaccines have been proven to be effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and death.”
Mayor Andre Sayegh has hosted multiple press conferences over the past weeks to highlight the importance of getting Covid-19 booster shots. Paterson has one of the highest vaccination rates in New Jersey.
“If you are fully vaccinated encourage others to get vaccinated and get a booster,” said Persaud. He said the city also deployed its booster shot cruiser which is promoting vaccination throughout the city.
Residents can get their Covid-19 shots, including boosters, at the Division of Health in downtown Paterson or at the mobile unit.
