Paterson robber faces six years in state prison for taking a phone

A man feigned having a gun to rob a person of his phone. Now, he faces six years in state prison.
David Maull, 20-year-old, pleaded guilty to robbery on Wednesday. He had been charged with robbery and three weapons charges.
Maull pleaded guilty to robbery under the plea deal. His three weapons offenses will be dismissed. He will be sentenced to six years in state prison with 85 percent to be served before parole eligibility.
Maull will also be put on five years of parole supervision after release.
On July 8, 2021, at around 12:24 a.m., Maull approached a stranger and robbed him, taking his phone.
Maull did not have a gun, but pretended that he did by putting his hand under his shirt.
“I made it seem like I had a gun,” Maull said in court.
Maull is scheduled to be sentenced on March 7 at 9 a.m. before New Jersey Superior Court judge Justine Niccollai.
