22-year-old Garfield man gets 27-year prison sentence for series of Paterson robberies

A Garfield man has been sentenced to 27 years in New Jersey state prison for a series of robberies that targeted people in Paterson.
Jimmy German, 22, of Garfield, was sentenced to 27 years in prison on March 31. He must serve 85 percent of the sentence before parole eligibility.
German was found guilty of first-degree armed robbery, three counts of second-degree robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and fourth-degree unlawful taking of means of conveyance by a Passaic County jury on February 22, 2023.
Passaic County senior assistant prosecutor Robert Wisse presented evidence at trial that on January 29, 2021, at approximately 5:30 a.m., in the area of 21st Avenue and E. 22nd Street, German robbed Angel Matos, 45, of his personal belongings including cash and two cell phones.
Then on January 29, 2021, at approximately 6:20 a.m., in the area of 6th Avenue and E. 19th Street, German robbed Juan Clase, 22, of his personal belongings, including his wallet and cell phone.
Then on January 29, 2021, at approximately 7:10 a.m., in the area of 12th Avenue and E. 28th Street, German robbed Julio Pujols, 59, of his personal belongings including cash, food, and cell phone.
Lastly, on January 31, 2021, at approximately 11:00 a.m., in the area of Liberty Street and Wayne Avenue, German robbed Irwin Ortiz, 31, of his personal belongings including cash and cell phone.
German was apprehended by members of the Paterson Police Department on January 31, 2021, and found to be in possession of a handgun.
